Anonymous asked: Hey doug.Drabbed ends here. I wanted to specify Her ends were about the same tone all around. as I did some questioning and closer inspecting I saw that lightened and colored darker ends that were slightly on the dry damaged side. I didn't think much of pulling it through because I am only going 1 -2 shades darker and she was relatively even level and tone from roots to ends. I did put a goldwell pre color protein spray to assist with her ends. I don't know if this would change your formula

Hey Drabbed,

Ok, so I would always glaze, just to lock in the color. The pre-color protein spray was a good move, because you evened out the porosity, bravo!

Now, a few things, is it longer than 2 weeks since she came in? I’m thinking maybe it’s time for a retouch and the color has faded. Some people, especially redheads don’t realize that color changes and fades through all 4 weeks.

Maybe she shampooed her hair and saw some residual pigment in the suds and thinks it’s coming out?

Good luck, let me know, maybe all she needs is a gloss to refresh it!

Anonymous asked: hey doug. I have a client that came in with about 1 inch of growout about a level 6/7 she had been bayalaged and colored over on her ends all relatively the same level when she cam into me chair. She wanted a rich red brown. I used 1/3 5n 2/3 6rb. The color was vibrant at the roots and very much drabbed out at the ends. with in 2 washed she said the color was gone and is coming in to get it fixed. what would you reccomend for a resulution?

Hello drabbed ends

Ok so I’m assuming she likes the root color, yeah? How bleached where her ends? Sometimes someone can be so bleached that the cuticle is gone and this makes it hard to hold color. It also looks as if you pulled the color through, instead of using a non-ammonia color on her. Never do this on any one, especially someone with bleached out ammoniated ends. The color will drab out and never last or look shiny. This is what I would do. First put on a great protein treatment like the vita ciment by kerastase. This will help to give the hair some protein. So you need to do a modern filler and build the pigment back slowly. It looks as if you never did this the first go around? Next, I assume you use Redken because of the formula. On dry hair apply Shades EQ 09nb 1 1/2 oz+1/2 oz 09aa with 2 oz of processing solution. Put her under the dryer with a plastic cap for 10 min. You are now building pigment back in the hair. Yes, when you take this off her ends will look like Ronald McDonald, it’s ok, assure her it is. Now I would mix again in Shades EQ 1 1/2 oz 06rb + 1/2oz 07c + 2oz processing solution . Apply to the shampooed, conditioned and dried hair, I would heat this for 10 minutes and cool it for 5. Please modify this as you see fit as you never told me the result you want,I am assuming a level 6 red brown ? Would love to hear what you did and any changes you made! Please post pics!

Anonymous asked: Hiya Doug! I am trying something I haven't done before and would love your input. I have a client who is 100% white and would like his look to be a little more distinguished. We discussed adding some grey & perhaps a bit of his former natural level 5 to give it some depth and brighten his features. I was thinking of balayage and comb distribution but I'm not sure of the best method to make it look as natural as possible. What are your thoughts and advice? I'll send pics :) THanks - Carrie C.

Hey everyone this is from the wonderful Carrie Chapman, who I had the pleasure of working with.

Ok Carrie I just did this on Tommy Lee Jones for Men in Black 3 . I would use L’Oreal Homme, the line has a color called Cover 5. Mix it in a bowl with its developer.

I start in the back and paint quickly in vertical lines, then lightly comb with a wide tooth comb to eliminate lines.

I do the same up the sides, but not as much around the temples.

After this is on process 5 minutes .Then rinse ,shampoo and condition.

This will eliminate almost 50% of the grey. But you can add ore or less depending on how heavy you want to paint it in.

Remember no man wants to walk in to am office, gym,bar or anywhere really, and have someone notice they colored their hair. and keeping some grey helps it look natural.

Anonymous asked: Is it safe to use color oops hair color remover on hair that has been permed?

Sorry about the delay on this question.

Being that I am a professional and work in a salon ,I don’t use at home products. I did want to answer your question though. I called the manufacturer of this product ,DEVELOPUS, I left a few messages on their “help” line and never got a response.

So I would say no, don’t use it.They have nothing on their packaging that says it’s ok to use on permed hair.

Go see a professional to safely remove color from chemically altered hair.
